The Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA) – formerly known as Malaysian Institute of Maritime Affairs - is a policy research institute set up by the Malaysian Government to look into matters relating to Malaysia's interest at sea, and to serve as a national focal point for research in the maritime sector. Established in 1993, MIMA was incorporated under the Companies Act 1965, as a company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital, with its own Board of Directors.
The Institute takes a comprehensive approach in dealing with maritime issues. Its role is to deal with national, regional and global maritime matters affecting Malaysia. MIMA is therefore expected to contribute towards a meaningful, comprehensive and cogent national maritime policy for Malaysia
Position:
1. SENIOR RESEARCHER
(Salary– RM 6,000.00)
Job Responsibilities:
- Undertake and lead policy research projects on current maritime issues
- Execute MIMA’s research strategies
- Supervise and coordinate research projects undertaken by Centre
- Provide expert consultancy on maritime related matters to stakeholders
- Organise seminar/fora/public lectures and other activities undertaken by MIMA
- Prepare reports on research undertaken
- Produce timely, relevant and implementable recommendations / opinions / input for national maritime policy planning and implementation
- Foster and maintain relationship with industry players, regulatory agencies and relevant parties in the maritime industry
Requirements:
- Preferably Masters, in Security, Strategic, Political Science/ Maritime Studies and Economics/Logistics/ Political Science or related disciplines
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
- Excellent writing skills and fluent in spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia
- Preferably at least 3-5 years of working experience, particularly related to policy research, shipping, port industry, logistics and maritime transport
- Familiarity with UNCLOS or Ocean Governance would be an advantage
